Introduction to Chinese Immersion Program
Total Immersion Experience (TIE)
The immersion language teaching model, also known as Total Immersion Experience (TIE), has been popular internationally for many years. The TIE teaching model places students in an environment with only the target language, thereby blocking the interference of the mother tongue. Teachers use the target language for teaching in the classroom, allowing students to experience the target language in everyday use and form the thinking habits of the target language, helping them learn to use the target language proficiently.
At present, many public schools in the United States have launched Chinese immersion courses from kindergarten to high school, and achieved amazing results. DMA's Chinese immersion class is intended for children aged 3-6. Teachers and students will use Chinese in language, science, mathematics, art, and other subjects, which will expand students' Chinese daily usage and vocabulary. We aim to cultivate students' understanding of Chinese language and culture in a well-rounded way. Building on DMA's many years of experience in running schools, our Chinese immersion teachers and assistants are all from China, with many years of experience in language teaching and teaching Chinese as a second language. Through Montessori-specific teaching materials and teaching aids, we aim to make this class a fun and exciting experience for children.
Curriculum
Speaking
The speaking class will carry out basic oral training for students, requiring students to have Chinese output, including short dialogues and be able to master the correct pronunciation and intonation.
Listening
Listening lessons will provide students with basic classroom instruction, as well as vocabulary and long sentences.
Literacy
The literacy class will develop students' pen-holding posture and basic strokes, including simple writing of new characters.
Reading
The reading class will train students' basic Chinese character recognition and reading, including reading children's books and real language materials.
Cultural Experience
In the cultural experience class, students will learn idiom stories, the origin of traditional festivals, get to know all parts of China, and understand customs and culture.
Mathematics
The mathematics class will be taught in Chinese, and students are required to master at least 0-20 numbers, as well as addition and subtraction within 10.
Art
Art classes include crafting, painting and learning Chinese nursery rhymes, Chinese dance.
Science
Science classes will adopt thematic teaching, such as children's understanding of nature, understanding of animals and plants, etc.
